I am leaving Thurs Oct 20th and coming back Sat Nov 3rd. It is 800 miles for me. We lost the cabin we have stayed in for years, Ernie and Steve Cobb would stay in that one also before I got there, but got a call while at Hausman's in June that they sold the cabin, so will be a little new for me this year. I'm already like a kid before Christmas getting ready for the trip. Has Lou ever hunted there before? You can give me a call if you want and I can point you into some good areas( its all good up there.)

Thanks Harold. Friend of ours lives there full time so he will be the host and guide. We're staying in Republic.

Oh yes, yes he does. Lou went to Maine with me a few years ago. We were finally able to get our schedules to synch up this year.

Mike, Republic is a good area. I have done well around South Republic. I have done some scouting up around Republic on rain days, but generally dont get quite that far north.
Lets hope for cool temps and straight shooting.

We’ll, Lou and I made the trip last Thursday. Drove 16 hours and arrived around 8:00 in Republic. We hunted hard, areas by Republic, South Republic and GEMS areas between Channing and Ralph. Only flushed 22 grouse and 1 mudbat. Lou killed the mudbat. I didn’t pull the trigger. Conditions were hot (65-72), dry and windy. They had 9”-14” of snow Tuesday into Wednesday and it was almost all gone by the time we arrived. Amazing how sandy that soil is and how it just sucks in all the moisture. There was no standing water nor mud. Had a great time with Lou. Got to deliver a tri-color pup to Danny. Hung out and hunted with Rich Anderson. Good time!! He’s a hoot!! We talked a lot about .22 caliber varmint guns and various single shot rifles. Enjoyed some fine cigars too. Had a 15 hour ride home. Arrived at The Rock at 7:00 PM. Had a fun trip but talking with Lou, we like that Maine is half the distance. Just sayin’.

When I look at that picture all I can think of is this song by Jerry Jeff...
