For the sake of general knowledge - we considered a GSP from a rescue group some years ago.

My bride inquired about a particular dog and made the mistake of sharing the fact that we are a hunting home.

She was turned away due to the fact that we are a hunting home, considering a GSP ~ from a GSP rescue group

I hope sensibilities within these groups has changed.

I just checked the adoption link and it is still active.

https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/34685867

As far as I can tell they're located at:
Pike County Humane Society Inc
(570) 296-7654
PO Box 255
Milford, PA 18337
pikecountyhs@gmail.com

It's not that far from Rock Mountain...

I wish I could take them but now is not a good time here. --Allan

I just got into a 3rd month of training with my rescued pointer and I cannot tell you how rewarding it is to see him develop with the incredible instinct that these dogs possess.. I would love to adopt these two but I fear my wife would make me the next one who would be looking for an adoptive hunting home.. The feeling of satisfaction and enjoyment in the field for both hunter and his dog is well worth it Guys and Gals, someone give em a chance to go hunting this fall...

That's crazy. That's like adopting out a dolphin with the caveat that it cannot go anywhere near a body of water. GSPs live to hunt!

You said it Todd..couldn't agree more.

This was several yrs ago and I haven't a clue what the backstory was b/c that was all we needed to hear..it smelled of liberalism gone too far.

I'm glad to hear success stories being told.

I had the same problem with Brittany rescue. When I said that the dog would have an outside kennel, I was told not to bother calling them again. This also was several years ago.

As stated, I hope that the rescue groups have come to their senses.

We are considering the notion of adding another dog to the stable come spring..we hope a rescue pup is a viable option..good on those whom have done so.

There are far too many good bird dogs left destitute following well meaning ambitions by those whom do not understand the totality of the breed(s).

Such a rough life..

MD I didn't see you at camp this past weekend when you took the picture of Daisy resting after a run No seriously that last picture looks just like her.

If anyone doubts how important hunting is to German Shorthair Pointers, here are my two, Emma and Allie competing for who gets to wear the e-collar first. The video cuts off right at the end, where Emma charges in, and tries to take the collar away from Allie.
