so - line or no line - just a thought
if you figure the rib matting was done ahead of time in batched of ribs, and now there is a stack of ribs at hand for the barrels joiner. everything is in place in the jig and he needs to solder the rib on a set of 28 inch barrel which are in line to finish for an order- but the closest sized stack of damascus ribs are 30 inchers, . does he stop and wait for the 28" batch? or trim it and keep the order moving? I don't know if Parker workers were on piece work, but if so - he wasn't stopping.

I have a #1 frame GHE12 that is cut but letters at the 26" length the bbls are now.
