Craig, I am truly sorry for your loss. These animals may be pets but they are more than that. They are loved family members.

Dennis

Thanks to all !

And yes sir they are truely part of the family !

I've had Border Terriers since 1962 !

And it looks as if I may very well be taking a trip a little south of Nashville to get another before the end of the year .

I kept English Setters also for awhile for grouse , But all my bird dogs were kennel dogs . Now granted I thought alot of all of them , the Borders were ALL house dogs so as one would expect when the time comes it's a whole lot rougher .

Marion DuPont Scott gave me my first one for my first birthday in 1962 she lasted about 17 years . We took awhile to find a second one and I think we got her about 1980-1981 she made it 16 or 17 years and passed in 1998 . We got the one we just had to put to sleep in Spetember of 1998 and she made it 15 years plus .

The first passed from old age , the second had a large tumor in her stomach and this last one had liver cancer !

My bird dogs usually all died of old age and most made it 13-15 years . All were English Setters except one GD hard headed AKC English Pointer he had an annurism and I found him in his kennel one day in a pool of blood .

I grew up with Border Terriers !

I thought of them more as little people

Reckon I'll head down to the funeral home and get her ashes tommorrow . We have two others buried outside . My father's will states he wants the remains cremated and have their ashes put with his before I bury him .I suppose in the next couple weeks if it cools off I'll dig up the other two and have them cremated .

He's kinda sitting the fence about getting another right now . He's about to turn 78 and has Parkinson's so he's worried about getting a puppy house broke . I keep telling him he'll go bonkers at home alone all day (my mothers been gone now for 4 years). I also truely believe an older person with nothing to keep them occupied will go back quicker then one that has something to take their mind off problems etc .

My new Lab pup, "Daisy" (now about 18 months old), will get her baptism by fire in about 2 weeks. She has been invited to be a picker upper at a 1,000 (yes, one thousand) bird tower shoot outside of Detroit. It's sure nice to be able to train your dog on someone else's birds.

Alright DCP season is over for another year !

I was lucky enough to get 16 my friend got 6 and a bear !

Without a doubt this is our best year in the 5 or so years we've been doing this !

I think I'll lay off the early part of the archery season here in VA and prepare for the Maryland early ML season !
Have one day on the Blackwater for Sika and whitetails , and then possibly 2 or 3 days the following week for whitetail slicks on a friends place for ML whitetail slicks !

The Blackwater as always is a crap shoot , but the place in Allens Fresh is a pretty good lock on getting a couple .
By the time I'm done with the Maryland ML early season it's about time for the VA ML opener .

Be kinda nice to lay off a couple weeks and get nice and rested before I do the Blackwater and Allens Fresh marsh !
