The wood itself will also have the serial number marked on it. Under the guard bow on the buttstock and under the iron at the face of the forend wood.

Between the checkering and the level of gloss in the finish, it means either refinished wood or replaced wood. My guess would be refinished.

The figure in the wood is very nice. Not all PH grade guns have such nice wood. But some do.

Your estimate of $1,500 range may not be far off the mark.
