Default A new accessory

Im guessing that some of you that are getting older have the same problem I have. Due to years of exposure to the sun not only do you have to worry about skin cancer but also have thin skin on your forearms. I know that I bruise easy and my skin is paper thin and tears.
If I get tangled up in some cat-claw or mesquite my arms come out shredded.
I have not used these yet but I had these Cowboy cuffs custom made recently.
I sure hope that they will save me some painful and ugly tears during my hunts this year.
I think these may take some getting used to, but I have spent more money on crazier things.
I do wear long sleeve heavy shirts sometimes but there are days when the weather is just to hot. Also when I have ruined some good shirts

My brother-in-law Jamie is a welder and has access to all kinds of forearm protection items. We’ve tried them and they work pretty well. The arm gaiters go up past my elbows.

Before I was retired I would return to work Monday mornings with shredded forearms. People would ask what on earth had happened?
My answer was well rehearsed as I would quickly reply “Well we invented a new game at grouse camp… to see who could hold the barn cat the longest underwater in a 5 gallon pail.”

For me, it has always been a sign that the season was really over when I could not see any scars from the last hunt.

Two years ago I was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma on my right fore arm and basal cell on the left. They took out quite a chunk of skin off each arm, then sutured them both back together--and if you know me, you know how skinny my arms are. They said come back in 10 days to get those sutures out, but I told them Id be in the UP hunting birds and would take them out myself. The dermatologist, who is an avid bear hunter, had doubts , but I told him I'd been removing sutures from eyes for years, his PA who used to work in the ER laughed and said, yeah, he can do that. Taking those sutures from the right arm with my left hand was a little awkward.

Good idea Phil! Let me know how they work. I've worn the Filson chaps for the same reason. The catclaw here can ruin clothes and rip the skin wide open. Did the hippies there in town make those? I know they do fine work on the boot resoles.
