Default June Edition American Hunter - Member's Best.

So, on a whim I submitted pics of my wife & I's bucks from last fall to NRA publications American Hunter magazine. I got the June edition earlier this week, and it sat on a table for several days, and I just noticed it was the "Members Best" edition, so I decided to take a look.....

Right there on page 40 was our pics... They edited my write up just a bit, but mostly true to original. Told my wife she's a celebrity now... hahaha

Very nice ! Of all the Ruger #1’s I’ve had over the last 30-40 years I’ve never had a 1A or a 6.5x55 . Having had a rather nice CZ550 FS in 6.5x55 and a half a dozen Swedish Mausers also in 6.5x55 that all shot very well with my handloads you may have just put the bug in my head to get a 1A in 6.5x55 . Well that is if I can find one I’m willing to pay what they’re asking

This Ruger n1 6.5x55 is very accurate with my handloads.

I did something really stupid several years ago, and sold it.... UPS broke it in half at the wrist when I shipped to new owner... After a 6 month ordeal with UPS, I finally got the insurance money out of it. They shipped it back to me, and then Ruger restocked it for me, on them.... Now, it's never ever leaving me until they pry it from my cold dead hands....

Ruger restocked it with a really nice piece of walnut too.... They didn't have to do that, I would have gladly paid.

When I was accumulating #1’s I had mostly B’s with a couple V’s and H’s thrown in for good measure . But I tried several times to get an A in 7x57 as I like that cartridge as well . To be honest I’d be happy with a 1A or possibly a 1RSI in 6.5x55 or 260 REM as long as it’s blued steel with walnut .

There was a stainless 1A in 6.5x55 that just sold on GB for almost $3k a month or two back.... I am like you though, blued steel and walnut on a no1 is right.

You don't see them very often, other than the RSI's. I got lucky when I ran across this one. Guy bought it, fired about 5 rds through it, and the Garand bug bit him again, and I was able to pick it up for about 1/3 what I could sell it for now.

Now that's cool. Great photos! So, I see that you are left to shoot your wife's rejects.

Those are both very nice Macon County bucks, for sure. It's so nice to have someone that knows you -- and that you know -- so well to hunt with. "You are blessed young man," is what my Pop would say to me when he learned that Elaine came along on our bird hunts. It seems his words would apply to you (and anyone younger than I is "young" to me!).

What's funny is, since my wife took up deer hunting 5 years ago....

Women at our Golf Club are all asking her about it, etc. I'll be taking a first time Lady hunter out this fall in an attempt to put her on her first deer. She is over 50, and thinks what my wife is doing is so cool. Her husband, a really nice guy and one heck of a golfer... Would not know which end of a rifle to hold.

And I'll be more than happy to shoot my wife's rejects, if she rejects bucks like that one.
