So I received 31406. Barrels are pitted as advertised about the same as my other D #6 frame (bad but not the worst I have seen!!!) Measurements are right barrel bore .807, wall at 9" .079, min wall .041, choke .040: left bore .822, wall at 9" .079, min wall .041, choke .051.
It needs a new bolt and to be put on face at some point it is shootable as is but I want it right. The right hammer is loose but I don't have a screw driver bit thin enough to tighten, it may need some welding work. The firing pin springs are broken. I intend to give it a good cleaning and add some finish to the wood that's about it. Cool old ducker, I can't imagine how many ducks this gun has killed but I do intend to extend it's long life in the marsh. So to complete my collection of old tired duck guns, I would like to add a 5 frame D 10 gauge, they seem to weight around 12lbs. |

Bottom gun is 31406, top gun is my #6 frame 10, not a great picture.
Craig I'm not interested in a 3 frame D just because they are common. My real interest is in the big guns built on frames larger than standard. |

Craig, most of these guns do not have firing pin springs. The pins float. That pin is likely just seized up with gunk.

OK thanks Brian I did not realize that. A little Hoppies and they are good now. I put a .003 shim in the hinge and the gun is good to go until I get it put back on face correctly.

Update on the 4 frame D. I bought it for $1860. The hinge and bolt need to be welded and fitted, $450. From Turnbull. The hammer screws need to be replaced and engraved $110. I added timberlux to the wood to seal up the wood. So I have $2420. In the gun. Not great but OK for what it is. Putting more money into it would be a waste in my opinion. Lightly recuting the checkering and re doing the barrels would cost another $600 to $800. So then I would be i
nto the gun for 3k to 3.2k. To much in my opinion but what say you? |
