Default Refinishing Guide

Is there a good book out there that would detail assembly instructions along with techniques for polishing and refinishing etc? For example I would like to know what grit paper was used for different parts, barrels, receiver etc. Also checkering patterns. There is nothing worse than a restoration that was done nothing like the factory ever did.

Thanks much.
