Default Ruffed Grouse

I wasn't carrying a Parker this day, but I thought I'd share this picture I took in Minnesota back in October. Look how big and scary he looks all blown up. He was obviously confused regarding my intentions.

You can't take a bird after it puts on such a display for you. This bird was about 10 yards in the woods along a forest service road. There were 3 of them together. As you can see, they weren't particularly protected by brush, though there was a nice thicket a few yards out of view. We stopped the truck to look back at them and decided to see if we could ease out with our camera to crawl back to them. Two of the birds got a little skittish and walked a good ways away, but this one decided to stay and dance. It was a pretty cool experience. We took our pictures, then thanked the bird before moving along.

Not all the great shots are with our Parkers. The camera lets us see it over and over.
We're strutting the PGCA feathers at the NE Fishing and Hunting show this weekend. George Purtill and I held the place together yesterday. Today, Larry Frey and Dave Suponski are holding down the fort till I get my chores done. The booth next to us is the Rough Grouse Society. Great conversations over the 'back fence'.
