Non Walnut Stock on DH?

Default Non Walnut Stock on DH?
I've got a DH from 1895 that has an interesting stock that does not appear to be walnut. I'm not a wood expert but it appears to be maple. I was just wondering if this was common. Stock has the serial stamped under the trigger bow and it appears to be original.

The sap pores look like walnut to me.

Can you show the other side?

The comb doesn't look original the stock just dont look right at all maybe the picture

The comb has been burned at some point. Not sure how maybe leaned up against a stove or baseboard heater or in a fire not sure. Rest of gun is fine.

Yes, about 630 last night. I'm refinishing it and recutting the checkering. It had likely refinished before.

Yes I'm recheckering and refinishing it now. It had likely been refinished before.

It is circassian walnut. Which would be normal for the grade at that time.
