Appropriate lifter checkering patterns
I have 10ga lifter #4893 from 1875, English stock, 30" twist. All the parts are there except for the firing pins, which I plan to make once I can acquire some dimensions to go by. I've seen a couple similar guns online that lack any kind of checking, and have read the information here indicating that a lack of checkering on a very plain version was not uncommon. That said, I'd like to have checkering when I'm done getting fixing it back up.
If anyone would be willing to share images of appropriate patterns that would help a great deal.
I thought that the forend had been checkered because the metal is very proud of the wood. If it works, I'll try to inlet the forend attachment escutcheons deeper, but the tip will still be proud. Not interested in investing in a newly made forend, but would buy an old one in better condition.
Thank you.
