Default Plain Twist Trojans

Just something to ponder ,as I was reading in TPS ,about Twist steel barreled Trojan grades " Page 246 ,Volume 1 ",I believe the smaller of the two volumes ,It was saying ,they were disignated as " PTX " with the following Plain Twist and we are not sure what the X stands for ,as I was reading this , It seemed to me ,on my Trojan 16 Ga. ,I had noticed an X stamped some where on the gun ,I went to the safe and got the 16 Ga. out and took it down and on the fore end lug ,there is an " X " Stamped on the facing part of the lug , I looked at my other Parkers and none of them have this stamping ,do you suppose the X has something to do with the snap on fore ends we see on the Trojan grade guns ,take a look at your Trojans and others and see if any of the other Trojans might have this stamping ! The serial # on my gun is 186214, It is a Trojan Steel barreled gun , may be something they did on a certain period of Trojan grade guns ! By the way when TPS was written only a couple of the PTX guns were known to exist ,has anyone info. on how many of the 43 are known today ,it would be interesting to dig them up and locate them . There are a few around, but I'm sure more than a few were rebarrelled by Parker and Remington to Trojan Steel. I would love to own one of the Twist Trojans, but have never been offered one. The would have value above a standard Trojan with fluid steel barrels.

Bill ,I would surely think so ,what is your opinion of the " X " on the foreend lug ? Do you think its possible it stood for the foreend type ? Also do you know if the PTX guns have the snap on fore end or the latch ?

Default X on fore end lug

The X appears on the fore end lug on guns of most if not all grades. It is a mark to notify someone further down the production line that a different part or fit was used somewhere on that gun. The fore end iron is a critical part in the breech fit of a Parker; the X may indicate that a different (or additional)fore arm fit was necessary to make the breech fit properly.

Best, Austin
