My biggest faux pax with Cabela's in Scarborough, ME about 10 years ago.
They had a DTR resto GH 20 gauge with 30" Damascus barrels. The engraving was picked up so expertly that it looked precisely original. The contrast on the refinished barrels was wonderful - the checkering with mullered borders was perfect and the case colors were almost perfect... a little bluer that I would like, but hey - the rest of the gun made up for that. It was magnificent... but for some reason that to this day I kick myself for passing on it at the mere $3K they were asking. What a fool I was. A member here was the lucky guy who bought it. .

My Cabela's moment was in was in Scarborough also. I had purchased a graded 12 gauge Browning O/U, I do not recall the model. Anyway, I had paid $5500 for it. When I received it I was not enamored with it so on a whim I drove to Cabelas an offered it for sale. I was willing to take a hit on it but the sales person came out from the back and apologetically said that he was sorry, that this grade had dipped in value and he could only offer me $6500 for it. I tried to look very disappointed when I told him that reluctantly I would accept his offer

And it is just an utterly beautiful gun to boot. I buy a lot of guns from Cabela's and I have experienced "things" like this too. Over the years there have been several issues with them similar to this one. The last one, about six weeks ago, was an Autumn brown Browning Double Auto. So, who'd want one of those things; well it was in very good condition, had a vent rib and the proper butt plate for $460 bucks. When I called back the next day to see if they had shipped it the guy told me "oh, I thought you wanted the other Double Auto we have. I already sold that gun yesterday". This was after I gave him my Black Cabela's MasterCard and we talked, in detail, about the gun. Yes, I wanted to strangle him and I did chastise him; GREATLY. But I've learned to move on to the next super deal from the "Worlds Foremost Outfitter". There's really no oversight from anyone at that organization, unless of course, you know Johnny Morris personally, which I don't.
