When people talk about "early" Gs. I beleive the determining factor is the engraving pattern that does not utilize the oval on the sides.

Recently picked up a GH 12, #1 frame serial 848xx 1896. Engraving somewhat fading and good wood. Very nice for it's age.

i like the g grade because tie workmanship of it eaquals any of the higher grades at a price i can afford....charlie
