Now that you mention it, Dave's right about getting used to it. I had just gone out to the front porch to get some bird seed . . .

Besides the reference to L.L. Bean, the other two are Kittery Trading Post and Cabela's another forty miles North on The "Pike".

Hi Bill,

I'll answer - and then ban myself.... (I think it's call "Forum Seppuku" )

I've worked at Kittery Trading Post (Shooting Sports) for almost a decade - from part time, to full time to Asst Manager of Shooting Sports, Floor Manager, Senior Trader, Senior Sales, etc... Today - my official title is "Manager of Internet Firearms Sales", and I have a great group of guys & team who list firearms on numerous sites (Guns International, GB, GA, etc.) as well as KTP's own Used Gun site... I also do a lot of the trades/buys/sales for the store as a Senior Trader as well as Estate appraisals. We have a wonderful group of Traders as well...

Tim is referring to Cabelas in Scarborough ME.. It's a great store as well, and I know a couple of the Senior Gun Library Managers up there pretty well... It's a small world, and these guys have done a terrific job building their business. It's a very friendly competition between Cabelas and Kittery Trading Post...

Dean - of course - is referring L.L. Bean - which is a great outdoor store as well, but doesn't have the depth of firearms that Cabelas and KTP enjoys...

Hope to see you up there someday!

John

Adding to John's very well done description of the gun departments of these three stores, L.L. Bean's hunting/shooting department has, in my opinion, taken a back seat (maybe even the rumble seat) position to their other camping, cycling, hiking, canoe/kayak depts. to say nothing of their clothing/apparel departments and their used gun department is just short of pitiful. Even Cabela's used gun department at the Scarborough store can't even hold a candle to that of Kittery Trading Post's used gun dept. and KTP has a huge new gun dept. too.

Unfortunately, (and I think I am speaking for John here) John really can't play favorites with any of us over their regular "walk-in" customers - so let's us not put him 'on the spot'.

My thanks Dean! You have it exactly right.. In short, my team does the best it can for any customer, and usually, I think (hope?) we succeed at that..?? As well - I'm entrusted by the Senior VP and owners (my "bosses") with umm - quite a bit of responsibility. That formula appears to work, as we've continued to grow our business model in Shooting Sports during difficult economic conditions while our "competitors" haven't been as fortunate.

So - there are a number of you in the Forum that have just "stopped by" on occasion - which I really enjoy.... You can usually tell if I'm around on the floor, as I'm the quiet, shy and reserved guy...

Anyway - these few posts actually got my wheels turning.. Many of us in the Forums have no idea what each other actually do for "work" (or pleasure, as the case may be?)... How about putting up a thread for folks so we can get to know each others work & avocations?

Thanks again, Dean!

John

Default Parker Guys

Two of the guys from the Kittery Trading Post gun dept came to the shoot and paid their money on the 1st. To the best of my knowlege none of the staff from either of the other stores came. Call me old fashioned but I like to support stores who participate in our events.

We ran over to Kittery after the shoot and some of the guys traveling with me picked up cases of Federal Gold 1 oz 2 3/4 dram 8s, for $60 case.

Thanks to all for the Hospitality. That was a nice way to start the year.

A very nice load that I regularly use in damascus 12ga's. Federal makes them in a paper hull also, which is even sweeter.

John, when you come out for Pheasant Fest , would you mind bringing about 5 cases with you?

Ouch! Will somebody please pull this dagger out?!? Ouch. . .

Sheesh, Greg, I thought we were friends

It's a rare thing that Kathy will ever say "Let's go to Kittery Trading Post" or "Let's go to Cabela's so you can spend hours in the gun department." so, when she says "Let's go to L.L. Bean. " I simply agree and make the deal on the way up there "While you're shopping for the girls and the grandkids I'll be in the hunting and fishing wing so if you need me to give my approval on anything you've picked out for them . . . you know where to find me." . . . and that works pretty well.

Default Et tu Brute?

No harm meant. I shop at all three, but have long been a fan of Kittery. Had a chance to speak with Tom up at the store. He had a Fox CE on the rack with the barrels hack sawed to 24". And, then to add insult to injury someone took a stamp on a fine CE and stamped it XE. Why would someone do that? Single trigger, beavertail forend and ruined. Presumably someone with a set of proper barrels will buy it in and restore it to its proper configuration.

See you in Greenwich.

PS Nice case.
