Even in upstate NY where I graduated from high school (This is the same Putnam County that refused to give names of gun owners to the Liberal press) my twin brother and I used to take guns to school for demonstrations. During hunting season we would take shotguns or .22 rifles and ammunition to school on the school bus. The bus driver asked if we were hunting after school and said he sure wished he could go with us as we hunted on the farm of a classmate. We took another school bus to her farm and then walked home on the main highway after dark. Nobody ever said anything about it. The guns and ammunition were stored in the coat room at the back of the classroom during the day. They were never locked up from anybody and always remained safe. Our society has gone completely bonkers with zero tolerance attitudes and nobody being capable of making a decision. Our Congress on both sides is incapable to simply say, "NO", to more spending so continually kicks the can down the road hoping it will go away. Studies prove that of all weapons in use the so called Assault Rifle is the least dangerous according to use. Yet idiots want to ban the possession of them and high capacity magazines thinking it will do some good. They seem to forget that even if magazines were limited to even 5 rounds somebody can simply carry more magazines. God help us all is right.

Trust me, I know the dangers of firearms having been in the USMC, law enforcement and corrections. My son also committed suicide with a 9mm pistol I had given him. Do I blame the gun or me? No I don't. I blame my son for starting to use drugs which put him on a path to self destruction.

That's a very sad thing you've suffered, Dennis. It's a parent's greatest fear today that something will happen to their kids. They're supposed to bury us, not the other way 'round.
I, too took my gun to school. Even kept it in my dorm room in college, no issues with the admin.
I used to ride my bike over the hill to the next town and shoot chucks on the farms for the farmers. No one blinked seeing a kid go down the road with a scoped rifle on his back.

The following comes via VERY reputable source:
There was NO assault rifle used in the Sandy Hook school shooting. A first responder saw the shooter's mother's AR on the backseat of his car, and this was reported within the first few hours. After the 2nd day, no such story was ever reported, and it ballooned into an assault rifle being used. I have the greatest disdain for freshman Senator Blumenthal (CT) He was an arrogant liar when he was CT's Atty General, and he's doing what he does best in Washington now; Grandstanding. This classic case of the media following orders and reporting an agenda, rather than a news story reminds me of the night TWA 500 went down off Long Island NY. MANY independant witnesses reported seeing a ground-to-air light trail, such as a missle would have, but the next day, they were shut up.

Dennis;
Thanks for your service. Your son's death is a tragedy which I can't even comprehend. I'm truly sorry. My 93 year old grandmother was killed on Christmas eve 20yrs ago while crossing the street to mail X-mas cards by a drunk driver. Do I blame the car or the alcohol? Drunk driving and drugs have been illegal for decades and are the real killers of our young people but our corrupt politicians do nothing to curb it. We can locate and kill some raghead thousands of miles away with a drone and you can't tell me our govt. does not know who the drug kingpins are and where these drugs are coming from. You'll never convince me that they don't have their fingerprints all over the illegal drug trade. They could send a drone in every day or so and vaporize them and their operation. No...wait a minute, let's just pass another law. That will solve the problem.

Daryl you are one the few people I know who have come that conclusion. Referring to the drug trade. While in the Coast Guard in early 80's, I was on a CG cutter that was preforming drug interdiction of the coast of Florida it became very obvious to me we where protecting other peoples interests.
