I have done something similar to that, it works well.

We should probably say "Period Correct Aftermarket Pad" for a 1877 Lifter
The first Parker fitted with a "Silvers Recoil Butt" was DH #56553 in 1891
Until then a "Recoil Boot" would have been used.
