We have looked at dogs, (no birds though?) and tips so lets see some of the stocks that hold it all together.

This is my father's VH, now mine. It's the one that got me involved here when I first started looking for replacement barrels. Big mistake. Bitten by the bug and suffering some serious "itis".

The stock was really rough, so in the late '70s or early '80s, I re-did the wood and stripped and cleaned all the metal. This wood saw a lot of hunting after the re-finish. It is hand rubbed oil (Lin Speed was the brand). Probably at least 20 coats, cut down with 0000 steel wool between every coat. The wood fared better than the barrels ultimately.

Bill the BH 28 was made in 1930. Here are some additional pictures. DelGrego redid the colors sometime ago.

Jack, I really like Linspeed finish. Here's a '98 I refinished (my first) about 55 years ago with Linspeed using the same process you did on the VH. Every few years, a few more drops hand rubbed in brings it up to "speed".

Also, here's a l&r of a butt stock (not Linspeed); can you guess the grade?

Nice grain Fred. I'm not great at guessing. It is a simple checkering pattern, squared off at the end. On that alone, I'll eliminate ABCDGV. Is it a Trojan with a capped PG? I have not seen that checkering pattern before but there's a lot I haven't seen in this life.
