Default Woodcock moon

Here in Ohio we’ve had a great display of the Woodcock moon

And I have to say legend is true as I was able to harvest three birds this evening. Good luck to all during our magical time

Tonight I used a 16 gauge Sterlingworth that spoke to me from the safe. Tomorrow will be a Parker, I promise….!

Moon here in NOVA land last night was bright enough to read a newspaper by! Lots of wildland activity and birds and mammals moving as a result (my conjecture). At not quite sunrise yesterday morning our resident huge 8-pt. buck casually strolled across the back yard, our resident flock (c. 8-10 birds) of wild turkeys eased out of the woodlot shortly thereafter to feed (I notice they love to come out just after a gentle sprinkling of rain to feed!). Around 3 this morning, one of our 3 resident owls sounded off in a strange, almost whistle-like cry before the deeper throaty hooting. All in the background of an unsettling northeast wind coming in spurts, taking ever more leaves off the rocking trees. Fall is definitely upon us with all of its sights, sounds and smells - there is nothing else like it!

Default Woodcock Moon

No timberdoodles here in Northern Michigan as the season is closed right now. But congrats to Rick! That bird may have passed through here recently on his way south!

But we do have an equally beautiful moon tonight!

Dave

That's a nice looking Sterlingworth Rick. Foxes seem to retain their case colors better than some other doubles and yours looks good.

Our Woodcock Moon Tuesday at 5:45 PM in South Carolina- hopefully will get to see some of those beauties on 12/18 when the season opens here.

Here in the South the local tv station was calling it a beaver moon. It caught my ear.
