Default "The Good Hunt"

This morning I just found my fall issue of the Parker Pages in a pile of old bills. I never opened it till today. The joy of my morning came when I turned to page 26 and found Gary Gordon's story, " The Good Hunt " Wow, it hit home with me! "The Companions", my dogs, now gone, my friend Dale, moved, nowadays my wife, not a hunter, but good company and my photographer. "The Setting", "Tools of the Trade", and "The Measures of Success". I don't know if the pics are in the same order, but I can relate to Gary's story looking at them. Thanks Gary, great story!

Default The Good Hunt

Without question this is one of the best true to life stories I have read in the Parker Pages. Superbly written in wonderful meanful English and warming to the heart of any hunter, especially with dogs and a wife that hunts as a companion. Gary your thought process was so inspiring to my days in the field and is what pushes me at 79 to press on and carve memories in my forgetful brain about experiences in the Great Outdoors. How blessed I am to still have these opportunity’s and be able to share them with friends and family. As a side note, my hunting buddy of over 65 years fell ,cracked his ankle while fishing in Alaska last week and didn’t make the dove opener with me. Don’t think we both didn’t feel the loss of that hunt yesterday we had been planning all year. We will be back in the field together very soon sharing and making more memories! Thanks Gary job well done! David Boyles

Thank you gentlemen so much. It’s gratifying when your thoughts and experiences connect with someone. I’ve followed you both in this forum, and I know that you know what a good hunt means.

You’ve made my day. Thanks to all who responded to my article. You all know what special places, people, dogs, guns, and birds can mean in a hunter’s life.
