Yes we ran into the same phenomenon in comparing the very early Parker 28 gauges relative to buttplate height and width. Most all of the early 28s were 0 frame guns but comparing 3 guns (all G grades) that coincidentally came through Wm. Wagner's DC shop in the early 1900s, we found noticeable differences in the height and width of the stock buttplates. Most interesting, to my recollection 2 of these guns were 26" and 1 was 28". The two 26" guns had the vivid difference in buttplate dimensions. Go figure!

How different are the stocks at the other end; are the frames significantly different in height, tang widths, etc. in the stock/metal dimensions?

Stock heads conform to the dimensions by frame in the chart of page 527 of The Parker Story.
