Default A Birthday Hunt

I managed to get my French Brittany out for a hunt for her 5th birthday. We both had a great time and even brought a few birds home for supper. The Parker is a 20 ga. VH with 26 inch IC/Mod barrels built in 1930. It is an honest gun that is full of "patina" -- that is bumps, scratches, and worn finish. It sure handles well. For me, it is the perfect gun for hunting game birds.

This young French Brittany, Annie, is only 32 pounds. She is a solid pointer and she loves to retrieve. She is now coming into her prime and has tons of energy. Being so small, she is a little hard to see in heavy cover, so I use a bell on her collar that makes it easy to hear her when she is moving.

I am having a lot of fun with her and my very modest collection of Parkers. I am looking at taking her up north for grouse next fall. That should be fun.

Your pup’s grin is truly “ear-to-ear” as my Pop used to say. So are you hunting bobwhites…woodcock? I really like the coloring of your pup.

We were hunting preserve quail for her birthday. Our NC woodcock season has only been open for about 2 weeks. I expect that we will start finding some here in the piedmont region soon.
