Interesting transition of steel and horn on that trigger guard.

I had a reallly nice drop barrel action in 14 gauge once with a similar setup. It was really nice when you removed it because it was held by one screw at the back. The front of the horn had a blind half round dovetail into the metal section. I suspect looking at it that this is fashioned in somewhat the same way.
