Let me throw out an 8 ga. question. I have an 8 ga. W.C. Scott single from 1872. It is in mint condition and from it's looks is totally original. The dealers acquisition story would indicate it was unused for the last 100 or so years and was owned since new by a family in downtown Boston. I suspect it was purchased through Wm. Read who was the first US Scott dealer, starting the year the gun was built. I suspect a lot of the 8 gauges here are the Parker variety and a few other USA makes. I read a lot here while waiting on the gun, made a swager for industial cases, gathered some others and shortened some. After recieving the gun, I found that the chamber accepted a full length industrial shell with no swaging or resizing of the head. Cases were loaded with mild loads, shot and then reloaded with no sizing.

I am convinced the barrel was never altered. It occured to me that it might be possible that the European and US versions may have been different at that time. My other thought was that the industrial loads may have been based on an old European standard to separate it from the more modern US version.

I would like to know if anyone here has a Euro gun of that vintage and has ever tried an industrial shell (short or long) to see if it actually needs to be modified for them.
