About 10 years ago I contacted Stan Bogdan to order one of his "Baby Bogdan-Wide" trout reels. Stan told me he was really backed up and didn't want to give me any kind of a delivery date, but did say it would probably be over a year. After patiently waiting 4 years---yes 4 years, I finally received it. These reels were in such demand at the time that they were selling on the secondary market for nearly double their initial price---which was considerable relatively speaking.

After receiving the reel I felt so fortunate to have acquired a fly fishing "Holy Grail" that I just couldn't bring myself to using it, so it sat in a display case for a couple of years just gathering dust. I didn't think this was what the Bogdan's had intended for one of their creations, so in a weak moment I ended up selling it. I really regret that decision as it rates as one of my all-time blunders--in both not fishing it and then selling it.

RIP Mr. Bogdan.
