On our way to Viet Nam in 1968, the destroyer I was on pulled into Pearl Harbor early on a Sunday morning. We were all in our dress whites and manning the port and starboard rails as we came up the channel and into the inner harbor. You could hear a pin drop. The Arizona memorial loomed ahead of us. One of the most emotional moments in our collective lives. There were tears in a lot of eyes that morning. If there was a single thought on anyone's eyes it was how could such a terrible event happen in such a beautiful place.

My Uncle Rex was on the USS Honolulu docked at Pearl. He got up early that morning and went to town for breakfast..
