Reloader advice 28 ga

Harold, I use a 600jr for 28ga, with a short kit for 2 1/2". My favorite wad has been out of stock forever, so I'm using the SP28-II and had to ream the 3/4oz bar in order to get it to drop a true 3/4oz. I get excellent crimps, but all my hulls (NPE) were trimmed from 2 3/4" hulls so the skiving is gone, and I attribute the good crimps to the thicker wall of the hull. I have a super sizer for 28ga because one of my VH28 gun has a slightly larger chamber, and sizing with the 600jr seems to shave brass on hulls shot thru that gun. My other gun does not have an oversized chamber, but I can't segregate the hulls, so all of them go thru the super sizer.

Well let me be devils advocate ! I’ve not got one MEC 28 progressive but rather THREE ! Don’t need that many just picked them up at really good prices . If all is going smoothly I like the pair of 9000’s more if I’m doing something a little different the Grabber is easier . But this does nothing to help your question as all three have collet sizers .

I use MEC 9000's in 12, 16, 20 and 28. A couple 9000G's and a couple 9000H's. To me, the 9000 platform is just a better mousetrap if you like to shoot clays in any number. I started out 50 years ago with a single stage reloader and just found that the progressives work better for my volume of shooting. Nothing wrong with the single stage setup if you only load a flat a year but I bet you will get hooked on that sweet little 28 Harold and find you reach for it more often than not.

To eliminate all the troubles with rag tag, finicky collet sizers, buy a Ponsness Warren 375, the best single stage loader on the market. I bought my first one when I was about 15 years old and am still using it, and a couple of others, sixty years later. The full length sizer cannot physically let a shell out without it being fully sized. The collet sizers just plain don't work with some chambers.

Well I have a 600 JR and loaded all my 28 ga Win AA HS hulls no problem.
Started loading my Win AA Compression hulls and at the depriming station the hulls would jam tightly in the primer punch shaft and need a hammer and pliers to remove. After several trips to the belt sander to reduce the large part of the primer punch diameter they finally started to release. And yes I spent several hrs moving punch height up and down and every adjustment I could only solution was removing a fair amount of that punch diameter.

I had a Mec Grabber. Only issue was an occasional shot bridge. Makes quite a mess when it breaks loose! Yes, it was magnum shot.

I use a 600 JR for 2 3/4 and 2 1/2" 28g. No issues at all.
