Leffingwell? Did he use it here in Alaska? He's certainly well known up here. I think a hut he used inland is still at least partially standing. He mapped much of the coastline using boats in summer and dogs in winter and his work has not been improved on. He figured out there was oil potential there, which wouldn't be too difficult since there were oil seeps that formed small lakes in the tundra. His USGS reports are still available. When he finished his years of work up here he went south, married? and never returned. He remains one of the most famous explorers of Alaska ever.
