The 8ga is very nice. Built in 1919 a year after the 8 was outlawed for waterfowl hunting which begs the question what was it intended for? 15 lbs 10oz king sized hippo for sure. That's 2 to 3 pounds heavier than most 36 inch 8's. A round of sporting clays would be a high intensity work out.

I would say not all laws are for all people probably more so back then it would be easier to get by with not being perfectly inline with the regulations. Could probably look at the letter and see where it was ordered or by who, especially in rural areas its more about who you know. I remember reading about a 10 ga magnum Parker built on a 6 frame many many years after the 8 ga was outlawed for waterfowl, I reckon they had at least a few extra 6 frames laying around that they could use even after the 1918 ban.

Craig, stop and think for a minute. The 8 was outlawed in 1918, for ducks. That does not mean it was not used long after that, for ducks. Remembering the outlawing of lead shot for ducks, I can assure you that it was used many years after that, and may even continue to be, for ducks. Parker had no responsibility for how the guns were used, legal or illegal.

Heck the PH 8 I have according to the Parker letter wasn’t even ordered for waterfowl ! A lumber company in the panhandle of FL ordered it for buckshot . I “assume” to shoot gators and possibly black bear as again i “assume” that was before the black bear subspecies there was endangered .
