I went back to the shop that has the gun for sale. The trigger guard is engraved 204063 as I stated in my original post. However the frame, barrels, and forearm are stamped 205063. No records exist for the latter. The engraving of the S/N on the trigger guard is poorly done. Could this be common for a gun made in 1923? All of my guns are earlier and the S/N engraving is nicely done. It also doesn't seem to me that a mix up on the S/N's would be the 3rd digit of a 6 digit number.

Take out the trigger guard screw, carefully lift the guard out of its channel, rotate the guard CCW and look on the underside of the guard. The S/N or part of the S/N should be stamped in the metal. Hopefully the entire S/N is there
