My mailman when he delivered my gun after 27 days said he had worked 35 days in a row. At Christmas time they go from a salary to being paid by the hour. He had so much mail he made the first trip out and then went back to the P.O. and loaded up again for a second trip. I saw him late in the evening with his beacon on top of his truck going long after dark.
He said one of the main hangups was the contract carriers that move the mail from one center to another. They also work for other delivery companies and they were booked beyond hope of timely deliveries.
