That's kind of a rough drilled channel. try swapping ends on the spring and try rotating the spring as you are pushing it in. I've had that problem once or twice in the past. It will eventually go in.

Default spring replacement

i got it just as you said twist the spring.
however i some how broke the plunger pin for the ejector
on the left barrel.
Numrich calls it no. #48 on their schmatic.

I am having a bad day, time to stop everything.
now I need to repair or replace this part!!
