FWIW , if I really need to scrub the bore I put two pieces of wood inside the jaws of my bench vice and tighten it up on the barrels and then scrub away .

I use a vise similar to this. It has rubber attached to the wood jaws. Jaws swivel and allow a stable platform on unsymmetrical items as well. Align the SxS barrels as an O/U. Very slick. Other companies sell the same. Just look for the wood jaws with rubber.
