I used to carry a rainy day gun with me on all of my hunting trips. Then one day it hit me; "Why am I doing this?" Now I just take two guns with me just in case one of them has a mechanical problem.
These thing are just metal & wood, if you take care of them & wipe them down correctly after they've been in bad weather you're good to go.
Now if we start talking high condition collectable guns that's a different conversation. They wouldn't be on a hunt with me.

About 7 years ago I came upon my rain gun a 20ga VH that was left in a case wet. The outside and the bore show signs of the resulting rust , guns weight is 6lb 3oz with 28" barrels. It also has great dimensions of 14 1/4 - 1 1/2 - 2 1/2. With a DHBP.
