I too have a James Lang, but it's a 577 BPE double rifle. The address on the barrels is 18 Brook St New Bond St London. I haven't been able to find much information on James Lang and from what I did find it appears that he wasn't in business for very many years.

Anyone know of a source of information on Mr. Lang?

Rick: 42 gr. "Schultze" Bulk would be 3 Dr. Eq. The oz. looks to be 1 1/8? The pressure for those loads would have been 7000 - 8000 psi.

Nigel Browns book is a good reference, but as all things there are errors, my rib is 64 A. New Bond street it’s the address right after 33 New Bond Street when his partnership with Philip Bedingfield dissolved. Most of James history lies with James Lang & Co. Ltd, Joseph Lang and Son (Sons) and Lang and Hussey. There was a lot of amalgamations with the company and names after Joseph snr. died and left the company to James and his second wife. There is a second more comprehensive book on the Lang’s coming out hopefully in 2020!

At present, the best resource on Lang is the book Atkin, Grant & Lang by Don Masters.

According to my friend Robert Hodges, it's about 90% accurate. Which is why Robert is writing his own book on the subject. After all, he is a direct descendant of E. C. Hodges, who did a lot of work for Lang in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
