			Daniel, it sounds like a cracked stock repair. There are quire a few out there that have had a bolt and nut repair. The dowel may be more pleasing to the eye. Some would checker that portion of the stock to hide the dowel. Could you post pictures?

			That would be a pinned cheek.  Sounds more like daniel has a pinned wrist.  Certainly there are some that could hide that repair relatively well.
