My interlude reading our association's journal for the Winter 2018 quarter, cover-to-cover, was over only too quickly. Super stories, up-dates, announcements for Members and useful, practical product and service advertising.

Now Volume 25, Issue 4 reposes with other past editions for future reference.

Yes, Mills… E. W. Tinker’s Serial Number 79… In previous issues we have been treated to other Parkers that had unique, off-the-standard-pattern engraving images: The Cow Gun; The Chicken Thief Gun and now we have what is literally and figuratively The Kick-Ass Gun.

Any well-executed engraving on a gun is an enhancement, worthy of study and appreciation. But these rare, if outré, Parker dramatic depictions are especially engaging, coming as they appear to right out of the 19th Century American genre art tradition.

Many thanks to all the writers and to Dean for his continual, monthly editing of all the many elements in each issue.

The three guns that Russ references all seem to have a humorous theme and the engraving may well have been the work of Jacob Glahn, Parker Bros. first in-house engraving contractor. His engraving on a particular gun is described in The Parker Story as being "somewhat cartoonish" and likewise are the three guns mentioned above.
There are several other early Parkers with unusual engraving themes or scenes that may also be examples of Glahn's imagination and engraving expertise.

Just making my way through this excellent issue of PP. Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but a special congratulations to Dean Romig on his “Charlie Price Literary Award”. Dean will agree, most have no idea what it takes to edit and publish the Parker Pages. A well deserved award to you, Dean, along with Mike Franzen on his award as well.

And a nice job to Mills on your book review article. I’m a big fan of AR and correspond with Jim Casada often. Jim is the last of a special breed. I have had the honor and privilege of handling Archibald’s Parker shotgun that was given to him by his students that he used for his turkey hunting (all his hunting, actually). It is still in the family’s possession, thank goodness. What a memorable day that was for me.
