Unique “stacked” trigger configuration

Found this Jos. Lang shotgun for sale and what caught my eye was the unique stacked double trigger configuration. Has anybody seen this before? Why the deviation from a normal front/back double trigger setup? It’s very odd.

Tom, it is a Horatio Frederick Phillips trigger design patented on March 6, 1897.
It supposedly has at least four advantages according to the designer. It does not require regripping with the hand and sliding it on the stock like a one in front of the other double trigger gun. It prevents pulling both triggers when using a thick glove on the trigger hand. It does not require a separate action of moving a slide to select a barrel like a SST. It may prevent the involuntary discharge of the second barrel due to vibration that can happen on an SST gun. HTH FV.

Everybody tries to 'build a better mouse trap.' I guess if those stacked triggers really were better we'd see them on more guns.

In the 6o's (?)Beretta offered a single/double trigger which was pivoted in the middle. Pull the top half, and the top barrel is fired, Same for the bottom.

John, I believe you are referring to the BL2 "Speed Trigger."

Double trigger set up on my Beretta called a "Speed Trigger" I guess there really is nothing new under the sun!!
