If we move out of snow country and leave our homes behind for the winter, do we still have to shovel our snow or can we let it pile up?

I had to help her along today regarding snow removal. First accumulation of winter and the snow blower wouldn't start
 Did it the old fashioned way with a shovel. Now where did that Winchester go???
