Parker vs Fox

A bit of rivalry has always made for good sportsmanship. I was pleased to see several of the members of the Fox Collectors Association at our Spring Shoot at Addieville. The rivalry is good fun, but come the end of the day we are tied together by a common appreciation of these works of skilled hands building upon hundreds of years of tradition.

Once upon a time I thought Vintagers would be the umbrella for all, but it is becoming increasingly Eurocentric. I would argue that PGCA as the largest organization can and does play a key role in assuring that the doors are always open at our events to bring together all who treasure and preserve our traditions and beliefs. I have a certain bias toward Parkers ;-), but a couple of sportsmanship special brownie points to Dave Suponski for reaching out to the Fox Collectors to join us at Addieville. Perhaps next year we might see the LC collectors as well.

I have thought about the Vintagers- I have two sisters living in NE Maryland and a early Fall visit might be fun. The Euro is a currency, like the French Franc and the British Pound Sterling- and Concentric barrel bores are a goal well worth achieving indeed. But I'm a Carhartt/Levi Strauss/Cabelas kind of dresser- can't see plus fours and a tie and weskit, so if you have to dress like that to shoot clays and drool over fine guns you can't afford, maybe not.

Glad the PGCA includes the Fox gruppen in the recent shoot mentioned. I'll be more than glad to bring one of my many 12 bore Smiths to a PGCA event anytime- those sweet old Elsies sure do shoot well for me--

I wouldn't want anybody to have the wrong impression about the Vintager/PGCA Annual Meeting Event. Although some wear Victorian Era British sporting clothes, plenty do not and shoot in jeans, Dockers, shorts, etc. We posted pictures here after the last Vintagers, and people can see how attendees are dressed. Its not a s---bum event but you don't have to dress up either.

There are double shotguns there to suit every reasonable budget. I haven't seen any gun show junker tables there, but there are plenty of American doubles, including lower grade Parkers, so that fellows can walk away thinking they did well. Or if a person wants to admire the latest Purdeys or H & H's, they are there too.

As Bruce pointed out, there are pictures of last years event on this site and if you click on the "Events" link on the left of the parkerguns.org page you can see both banquet and outdoor activates from the "2009 PGCA Annual Meeting".

I'm with you, I am always in jeans but I don't feel out of place at the Vintager/PGCA event. I dress a little better for the Banquet but not by much.

I have always enjoyed the gentlemen and ladies that dress in vintage attire it's just not for me.It's not my style...I wear a tie for wedding's and funerals and oh ya the"banquet" I think the Vintagers does yeomans work promoting the doublegun community and I believe there is a spot for everyone from the high end collector to the guy that just loves to shoot and hunt with a doublegun.
