I'm headed to South Dakota on November 2 for a week of wild birds. Unfortunately, I, like John, am without a dog this year, as I lost my Lab to old age last summer. I will be depending on dogs owned by a couple of the guys I will be with.

I'm taking my VH 16, and my PH 12. Both guns are the result of very pleasant transactions with new friends I had made here on the PGCA Forums.

That is a beautiful dog, it brings back memories of my first gun dog, a L/W GSP. She taught herself and me the nuances of bird hunting. And I also understand Dave: if I would have an issue with our Creator, it is that the life-span of men and our dogs are not more equal. There is the grave yard in back full of companions shrouded in hunting coats and vests, as there are lots of pics and memories.

I've had Shorthairs for as long as I can remember.....so at least a year or two. That is a fine looking dog there and he reminds me of my little buddy Gunner.

Daisy and I hit the Hay Marsh for a morning hunt. She made some fine retrieves on crippled birds that flushed just a tad far for an AAHE upgraded 28.

I have never been to SD for a Pheasant hunt but it's on my bucket list.
