The only way I have found to put weight on my setters during running season is to lock them up and not let them run.

Seriously, I feed the best quality high fat/high protein diet and as much as they will eat. Fill the bowls and they limit their intake and it seems the harder they run the less they eat. I've tried all sorts of additives to get them to eat more and without much success. During hunting season they loose weight and nothing I have found prevents it.
