My personal preference is to first clean the dirt off with saddle soap. Then apply a coat of Pecard leather dressing per directions. Pecard is the best stuff in my view. Google them. Smithsonian uses it.

+1 for the Pecard products, it's all I ever use anymore. I use their Antique leather dressing on any old leather products including gun cases, shot flasks, and shooting bags.

Pecard +++

They sell 3 types Oil, Lotion and Paste that has about the consistency of Vasaline. Lotion dresses up leather that's in good condition. Paste is the one to restore old dry leather. It works best warm, hot sunny day outside let it soak in. Wintertime in front of the fireplace. Several thin applications work best.
