The level of engraving detail, composition and style was dependent on a few different factors during the period of lifter Parkers. It is likely that the composition and style was generally determined by the chief engraver at the time and his 'reign' usually encompassed a decade or more in duration. He was the one who decided what could be done in the way of the
level of engraving for the $$ amount assigned by Parker Bros. for a particular grade. Management determined the $$ amount at which they could sell a gun and, consequently, what they would pay, at each work station, for a completed gun.
We see various styles, levels of engraving generally segmented by the terms of chief engravers. Some are distinctly nicer than others but each has its own charm and beauty.
