1903 PH and skeet......
I have a matching two barrel PH with Parker Twist steel barrels, which according to the research letter was ordered with 30" barrels out of a Hardware store in Winnipeg Manitoba in 1905. In 1908 it was sent back and fitted with a new 30" barrel set, and the old barrels were cut down and returned. Reading between the lines, someone clearly did something evil to the muzzle end of the original barrel set. The shorter barrels are 23 1/2", with their own fore-end, and a front bead installed when the barrels were chopped. They are of course basically cylinder choke.
Today I was heading out to the club, looked and the case and thought, hmmmm.......skeet. I got some side-eye from my fellow shooters taking this old short barreled SxS out on the range, and in deference to its age I only shot stations 1 and 3 with it with light loads, then finished the round with my (also quite old) Perazzi. The Parker absolutely obliterated all 6 birds, and was crisp and pointed well. I wish I could say the rest of the round went as well with the Perazzi. I love shooting these old girls. I shoot a Parker SBT, LC Smith SBT and an old Baker Sterling SBT on the trap lines, and last weekend shot a skeet round with a (full choked) Baker Paragon which was a hoot as well.
Safe queens they are not......
