Default Feisability of lenghtning 20ga repro chambers

Due to the high cost of T. matrix shells, would it be feisable to lenghten the 2-3/4 inch 20 gauge chambers of my reproduction to 3 inch. I have the standard 26 inch barrels with imp/cyl-modified chokes. Its my understanding the reproductions can be used with steel shot with open chokes. I was told that the 20 gauge 28 inch barrels come with 3 inch chambers standard. Are the the 26-28 inch barrels the same diameter and thickness? I do not want to beat up the gun, but get more use out of it for close range waterfowl. I know that the 3 inch steel loads are not the best for ducks, but I want to use the reproduction more in the field. Thanks BW.
