Two Virginia clubs have a long running single shot rifle match. 40 shots at swinging Rams 200 yards. Format is like trap shooting. Down the line one shot offhand each shooter rotate positions each 10 shots. It’s still a very popular match at Fairfax Rod&Gun & Cavalier Rifle & Pistol.

25 years ago when I first shot the Match & before the reproduction Sharps etc were available, winning Rifle was a Trapdoor 45/70 more often than not. Standard load was the 330 G Gould bullet with a sub sonic charge of pistol powder. From memory I used Unique 8.4 grs. About 1100 FPS. Ran the bullet .002 over normal .459. Light charge won’t bump them up like Black Powder will, you need the larger bullet.

Recoil like a .22 Rimfire, very accurate easy on the gun. If I had that LC Smith would load something similar
