dogs head vs rubber butt pad

I am a member of the Texas side by side shooting club and I’m starting to shoot My Parkers more and more and I’m finding that the hard plastic dogs head but plate is slipping on my shoulder and having to readadjust the gun to shoot the second shot. Would it hurt the value of my gun if I had the stock cut and a rubber butt pad installed any advice would help
