A Spring-like Morning
The Red-Winged Blackbirds are here - heard them for the first time about ten minutes ago - and now that the water is finally open, the Canadas are boisterously defending nesting territories here on the Shawsheen Meadows and Ballard Vale Flats. The diving ducks are always the first to arrive here as soon as there is just a few square yards of open water, with the pretty little Hooded Mergansers very obvious among them. I think the back of 'Old Man Winter' is finally broken in these parts.
